Infection Prevention & Control (IPC)

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is critical in healthcare environments and is an expected standard of practice for all E4 People workers. Effective IPC protects you, your colleagues, and the people you care for.

Your IPC Responsibilities

As an E4 People employee, you are required to:

  • Follow all IPC policies, procedures, and instructions

  • Perform hand hygiene correctly and consistently

  • Use PPE appropriately and as directed

  • Comply with isolation, cohorting, and outbreak controls

  • Report potential exposure, symptoms, or breaches immediately

Failure to comply with IPC requirements may place others at risk and result in removal from a placement.

Personal Protective

Equipment (PPE)

The host organisation is responsible for providing

  • Appropriate PPE for the work being performed
  • Instructions on correct PPE use
  • Fit-for-purpose equipment aligned with site risks

This may include gloves, masks, gowns, eye protection, and respirators where required.

If your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is

  • Not provided
  • Unsuitable for the task
  • Damaged or does not fit properly

You must

  1. Stop the task immediately if it is unsafe.
  2. Inform the host supervisor right away.
  3. Contact E4 People as soon as possible.
  4. Do not continue work without the correct PPE

Vaccinations

Vaccinations reduce the risk of infection and severe illness and help protect vulnerable patients, residents, and staff. Many healthcare roles require specific immunisations as a condition of placement.

E4 People verifies vaccination status by

  • Requesting evidence prior to placement
  • Recording compliance in our systems
  • Reconfirming requirements for specific sites or during outbreaks

You are responsible for ensuring your vaccination records are current and accurate.

During an outbreak

If an outbreak occurs at a worksite, you must:

  • Follow all host and E4 People instructions
  • Comply with additional IPC controls
  • Participate in testing, screening, or redeployment if required
  • Report symptoms or exposures immediately

When Not to Attend Work

You must not attend work if you:

  • Are experiencing symptoms of infectious illness (e.g. fever, cough, sore throat, gastrointestinal symptoms)

  • Have been identified as a close contact or exposed to an infectious disease

  • Have been instructed to isolate, quarantine, or stand down

Notify E4 People immediately if any of the above apply. Do not attend a shift until you are medically cleared or advised it is safe to return.

Infection prevention is a shared responsibility. Your vigilance and professionalism play a vital role in keeping healthcare environments safe.
