What working holiday nurses ask
Can I work as a nurse on a working holiday visa in Australia?
Yes. Registered and Enrolled Nurses on a subclass 417 or 462 visa can work in Australian healthcare and aged care once they hold current AHPRA registration. Nursing is a fully eligible occupation, and demand for agency shifts is strong right across the country.
Do I need AHPRA registration, and can E4 help?
Yes - you need current AHPRA registration before your first clinical shift. Nurses from approved comparable countries (such as the UK and Ireland) may qualify for a faster pathway. Once your AHPRA registered, E4 guides your application and runs immunisation and compliance checks in-house, so you can start as soon as possible.
Can I keep working with E4 for longer than six months?
Since 1 January 2024, health, aged care and disability care are exempt "critical sectors", so working holiday visa holders can work with the same employer for longer than six months without seeking permission. That means you can stay with E4 for your whole visa.

Does agency nursing count toward a second-year visa?
For a second-year visa you need 88 days of eligible specified work — and for healthcare, aged care and disability work counts only in northern Australia. Always confirm the current specified-work list and postcodes with the Department of Home Affairs before you plan around it.
How and when do I get paid?
Agency shifts are casual, paid weekly every Friday by direct deposit, at competitive rates with loadings and penalties for evenings, weekends and public holidays - so your travel fund grows faster.
