Police check

You'll need a National Police Check issued within the last 12 months when you apply. If you don’t have one yet, no worries - you can apply for a new one online. Just make sure it’s issued in Australia through the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) or an ACIC-accredited provider so it’s valid.

Quick check if you're required

Is this required of me?

Select the statement that is most relevant to you and follow the steps required.

I have a national police check issued in the last 6 months

Good news! You don't need to get a new one. Simply scan your police check certificate and submit a clear copy to your Compliance Officer.

If you don't have access to a scanner, you can visit an Officeworks or your local library to have the document scanned, then email it across to us.

I have a national police check issued in the last 7-12 months
Please submit a clear copy of your police check certificate to your Compliance officer. You must also complete a statutory declaration. You can visit our Statutory Declaration page to find out how to get this done.
I have a police check issued in the last 3 years

We require police checks to be completed within the last 12 months, so you’ll need to apply for a new police check online.

Top Tips:

  • Have your ID ready and double-check that you meet all application requirements to avoid any delays.
  • Ensure that all details are entered accurately.
  • Download and send the receipt to your Compliance Officer so the team can record the application date.
  •

Please note:

  • We do not partner with police check websites and cannot recommend or direct you to any specific site.

To apply for a National Police Check, search “Australia National Police Check” online to find a suitable website.

You are also required to complete a statutory declaration. For guidance on how to do this, click here

I do not have a police check issued in the last 3 years

You must apply for a new police check and wait for this to be issued before you can be registered and commence work.

1. Can E4 cover the cost of my police check? As we do not have a partnership with any police check issuing sites, the certificate will be yours to keep. Due to this, you will need to cover the cost of your own police check.
2. My police check is over 3 years old, but according to the website where I obtained it, it is valid for 5 years, meaning it is still valid. Would it be acceptable for this application? We understand that some police checks are valid for longer than 3 years however, it is our company policy that at the time of registering, all candidates must provide a police check issued in the last 12 months. Due to this, you will need to apply for a new police check.
3. The name on my police check is different to my ID. Is this accepted? A National Police Check is valid even if it shows your previous name. However, if you’ve recently changed your name, you will need to provide additional documents, like your marriage certificate or change of name certificate, to clarify the discrepancy.
4. My current police check was applied for in a different state that I intend on working in. Can I submit this? If it is a National Criminal History Check, the background check covers all jurisdictions in Australia and therefore is sufficient regardless of which state you work in.
5. My police check was issued overseas. Can I use this? Unfortunately, we are unable to accept international police checks. You will need to apply for a new police check in Australia.
6. I have disclosable outcomes on my police check. What can I do? If you have disclosable outcomes on your police check, please raise this with your consultant and/or compliance officer. We will review your police check and make an assessment on whether your registration can proceed.
7. I have an NDIS Check. Can I use this in place of my police check? No, we do not accept NDIS Checks in place of national police checks. Whilst it serves a similar purpose, it is not a direct substitute for a national police check.
8. How long will my police check be valid for on your system? We request updated police checks every two years.
