Vaccinations &
Immunisations

Evidence of vaccinations is essential in aged care to protect both staff and residents from preventable diseases. Older adults are more vulnerable to infections, and vaccinations help meet legal and regulatory requirements for a safe and healthy environment.

What vaccinations do I need?

Each state differs. We require everyone to have an Influenza Vaccination, and COVID-19 Vaccinations.

  •

Influenza Vaccination

This is required annually. While vaccinations do not expire, it is our policy that all staff receive the flu vaccination each year to ensure ongoing protection.

Vaccinations must be:

  • Administered within the last 10 months at date of submission
  • Evidence must include full name, DOB, vaccination provider and vaccine information (like the brand)
  •

COVID-19 Vaccinations

Currently, two doses of the COVID-19 Vaccination are required. The Booster dose is strongly recommended; however this is not mandatory. Evidence can come in the form of:

  • Letter from your GP (stating dose, date, vaccine)
  • Immunisation History Statement
  • COVID-19 Digital Certificate
  • Overseas COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate (via AIR)
QLD Health

Planning to work in a QLD Health facility?

If so, additional vaccination and immunisation documents are required. This does not apply to other facilities in QLD. If you're unsure, please consult your compliance officer.

The following immunisations are required for QLD Health staff, with the evidence needed outlined below.

Measles Mumps & Rubella (MMR)
  • Born prior to 1966
  • OR documented evidence of positive IgG for MMR
  • OR documented 2 doses of MMR vaccine at least one month apart.
Varicella
  • 2 varicella doses (1 month apart) OR
  • Positive serology result
Diptheria, Tetanus & Pertussis
This can only come in the form of a vaccination, serology is not accepted.
  • Must be either brands Boostrix or Adacel, which cover all three diseases.
  • Must be administered within the last 10 years and not due to expire.

Hepatitis B
  • 3 doses 1 month 3 months & 6 months apart
  • OR seroconversion of HBsAb 10 mlU/mi

1. Can I continue working if I haven't had the COVID-19 vaccine? In order to proceed with registration and continue working, COVID-19 vaccinations, including the third dose (booster), are mandatory. Medical exemptions may apply with appropriate documentation.
2. I can't get my influenza vaccine administered soon, and I want to start working, what do I do? If you are unable to get an influenza vaccination due to limited availability at this time of year, you can still proceed with registration by providing additional evidence. Please contact your compliance officer, who will guide you on the necessary documentation. Please note that a flu vaccination will be required before the start of the winter season on 01/06/2025.
3. Can I get the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time? Yes, you can receive the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. The Australian Department of Health have confirmed that it is safe to get both vaccines on the same day.
4. Do I need to pay for my vaccinations? In Australia, whether you need to pay for the influenza (flu) vaccine depends on your eligibility and the location (for example, metro or regional areas) in which you're seeking the vaccine. We recommending contacting your local GP or pharmacy and they should be able to provide you with information on the cost prior to booking an appointment.
